Importer Exporter Code (₹2000/-)

Introduction:

An import-export code is a unique 10-digit code that is required for every import/export business owner in India. The code is issued by the Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce. IEC is required by importers to clear customs and shipments and to transfer money to foreign banks. Exporters require their IEC to send shipments and receive money from foreign banks. In short, no importer/exporter can operate in India without getting the IEC.

Duration:

The process usually takes about 2 - 3 business days.

Benefits:

  • 1. Helps traders venture into the global market, including registration in online e-commerce operators.
  • 2. Avail of government schemes like the Merchandise Export from India Scheme (MEIS), the Service Export from India Scheme (SEIS), and others from customs and export promotion.
  • 3. IEC has to be renewed online in the month of April - June.

Documents required for registration:

Scanned copies of:

  • 1. PAN card of the company (not applicable in case of the proprietor).
  • 2. All directors/All partners/Applicant’s PAN and Aadhaar card (driving license/Aadhaar/voter ID).
  • 3. Incorporation certificate/partnership deed.
  • 4. Address proof (electricity bill/postpaid bill/gas bill/rental agreement/sale deed/lease deed).
  • 5. Cancelled cheque leaf/banker certificate of the current account in the name of the company.

Deliverables:

  • 1. Registration certificate/IEC code.
